Most folks from the Midwest will run when a rain shower hits, thinking there's a chance they might not get wet!
Most folks from the Northwest never bother because they're pretty certain they will get wet!
Midwesterners cannot conceive of living someplace that "boasts" of an average of 155 days of rain per year (Portland), but then most Northwesterners cannot imagine living on the open Plains being buffeted by winds at least that many days per year plus occasional tornadoes!
Having spent sizable chunks of life in both locales, I would tell you that it is all a matter of perspective! Put it this way, what you decide you're seeing is what you get!
When I first went West to finish my college days, I had trouble getting used to the surrounding mountains in southern Oregon. I felt claustrophobic after growing up on the flat lands of Kansas. And the "constant drizzle" of winter and part of spring were a drag. But in time, it became obvious that those mountains and that rain were a huge part of what made Oregon so beautiful with so many rivers, lakes, trails and other outdoor wonders. In time, I even learned to love to walk in the rain. No hurries. No worries. Just go out and soak it all in.
How different would life be if approached from that perspective? Instead of encountering something new with jaded eyes and attitudes, what would happen if one chose to take a slow walk in the experience? No hurries. No worries. Just go out and soak it all in. You realize, no explorer ever discovered the wealth of a new world until they ventured out of the "safety" of the old one! Go on then! Give it a go! And do keep an eye peeled for me along the way!
